Students fill both cans with water and place a thermometer in each. Then turn on a light 10 centimeters distance and observe how temperature rises in black can (absorbs heat from light source) and remains essentially the same in silver can (reflects light). Repeating the experiment without the light demonstrates the rates of cooling. Each kit includes: 16 oz. black metal can; 16 oz. shiny metal can; 2 insulating lids; 2 thermometers – 20 degreesC to 50 degreesC; 1-110V AC clamp lamp, with reflector; 1-200 watt light bulb.
